Something horrific is happening on Marisol Island. A deranged man is attacking innocent beach goers. Massive, prehistoric sharks have started appearing in the water. The stars in the sky have started to dim.

When two brothers, P.J. and Dennis, come face to face with a cosmic evil, they’re forced to make a decision: stay and fight or flee to the mainland. Quickly, the line between bravery and foolishness starts to blur. The history between the two starts to boil. Throw in Max, a journalist linked to two of the victims, and the whole nightmare seems to get more tangled.

Between the quarter life crisis of being in your twenties and the real terror of a man feeding you to sharks, Land Shark compounds tangible blood and guts with existential dread. There’s something in the water, and it’s been there for aeons.

I just finished reading this book – a creepy read that dives into the origins of fear and its terrifying manifestations. Perfect for the horror reader who likes things a little weird, as well as shark week enthusiasts and those still afraid to go in the water since Jaws. This book is filled with a constant suspense that left with me with the unnerving feeling of being watched. I can’t wait to read more from this author. And I think I’ll go ahead and put off taking a bath until tomorrow during the day…

If your looking for a nice summer read, one that will bring you back to your cardinal fears of the water. Look no further. Land Shark, will make you think twice about swimming in the ocean or in the privacy of your own home.

Land Shark is a tale of something lurking deep in the waters, wreaking havoc on a little Florida beach town. But more than that, Land Shark is a dynamic story that has something for everyone. The writing is so vulnerable and honest that you relate to each character on an existential level, not just reading about them as pawns fulfilling a plot. And the evil? So earnestly sinister you can’t help but constantly be creeped out, each chapter getting nastier than the rest. The endearing beach backdrop warmed my Floridan heart, but I definitely won’t be tipping my toes in the Gulf anytime soon. Give it a read!

Land Shark is a gripping read you will never forget. In fact, I guarantee you will be unpacking the layers of unexpected emotion and turmoil this book provokes for weeks after you’ve put it down. As a Floridian who grew up on the Gulf of Mexico, the author perfectly encapsulates an imposing dichotomy on this reader in particular: never wanting to visit the ocean again after reading this beachy tale from hell AND the overwhelming urge to visit the very landscape drenched with such hopeless possibility and, simultaneously, the promise of content mediocrity that these all-too-real characters elicit. Throughout this nail-biting narrative, the author somehow managed to effortlessly combine those childhood fears we thought we had survived (and left behind) with the current and ever immobile terrors that permeate the minds of adults (never finding love or career fulfillment). Exploring this beachside hellscape through the lens of both an adult and child never seemed so possible and so terrifying. Add the eerie backdrop of the ocean and the author has more than he needs to fill you with fright. Alex Gonzalez has a gift for horror writing and I cannot wait for his next read.
